The granite landmark Half Dome, rising to an elevation of 8,839 feet, is a well-known symbol of Yosemite National Park. It is not the remaining half of a dome that was removed by glaciers, as is commonly thought. Instead, weathering has gradually eroded the rock, carving the face we see today.
